SCARBOROUGH – Youth seeking information on career services and job opportunities are invited to attend the first annual Scarborough Centre Youth Fair on Friday.
Organized by Scarborough Centre MP Salma Zahid and the Scarborough Centre Constituency Youth Council, local youth will have the opportunity to meet local employers such as banks and technology companies, local service providers such as career planners and resume preparers, and hear from exciting keynote speakers about the future of the job market.
Keynote speakers will include Wendy Cukier (founder of the Diversity Institute at Ryerson University), Brad Duguid (Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Growth, MPP Scarborough Centre), Michael Thompson (Chair of Toronto’s Economic Development and Culture Committee and Councillor Ward 37) and MP Zahid.
“The theme of the youth fair is ‘Youth Opportunities, Work employment (YOWL)’ and my Constituency Youth Council has taken the lead in organizing this event to meet the needs of today’s youth – this event is by and for youth,” says Zahid. “Youth are entering a job market more challenging than that faced by past generations. YOWL will help them learn about changing trends impacting the job market, hear directly from employers about what they’re looking for, and get help to ensure they put their skills and qualifications in the best possible light.”
The free event takes place on Friday, February 24th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Centennial College (Ashtonbee Campus), 75 Ashtonbee Road, Scarborough ON, M1K-4C9. No advance registration is necessary.
